Microchipping
š¾ What Is Microchipping and Why Is It Important?
Microchipping is a simple, quick, and permanent way to help ensure your dog can be identified and returned to you if they ever get lost. A tiny microchipāabout the size of a grain of riceāis inserted just under your dogās skin, usually between the shoulder blades, using a special needle. The procedure is very quick and causes minimal discomfort, similar to a routine vaccination.
Each microchip contains a unique ID number that is linked to your contact details in a secure national database. If your dog is found and taken to a vet, rescue centre, or dog warden, they can scan the chip and contact you right away.
In the UK, microchipping is a legal requirement for all dogs over 8 weeks old, and keeping your contact details up to date is just as important as getting the chip in the first place.
Microchipping gives you peace of mind, knowing your dog has the best possible chance of finding their way home if they ever go missing.
